# Permissions

> Read only, Ask first, and Always Allow control what an Agent may do.

Turnstone has three user-facing permission modes:

| Mode             | Behavior                                                                                    |
| ---------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Read only**    | Allows inspection but blocks changes.                                                       |
| **Ask first**    | Pauses for approval when a change requires it.                                              |
| **Always Allow** | Removes ordinary approval pauses; sensitive connected-app actions may still require review. |

Choose the mode from the conversation's permission control.

Changing the permission mode does not turn Coding Mode on or off. It also does
not connect apps or enable unavailable features.
